This entry has been altered from the original post. When I started writing it yesterday afternoon, we didn't have news of BMac's deal with the Yankees and Huddy's thank you to the Braves fans was still behind the AJC paywall. I'm glad the AJC fixed that, and I'll address Mac's new contract in a different post.
As you've certainly heard by now, Huddy signed a $23MM contract with the San Francisco Giants. As much as I loved watching him pitch, I understand why the Braves weren't willing to give him such an increase (but that doesn't mean we won't miss him). The AJC posted the entirety of his thank you to the fans on their website today. In part:
And to the city of Atlanta and the amazing fans in all of Braves country … my deepest thanks. Braves fans are one-of-a-kind. Your passion to win comes close to equaling that of the players that go out on the field each and every game. But when the team goes through rough patches, you’re there to encourage and cheer and believe that things will turn around. In my nine seasons, we definitely had some very high moments and some extremely disappointing moments. But one thing that I learned is this — once a Braves fan, always a Braves fan. No matter what. And as a player, that means more than you could understand.
We love you too, Huddy.
Other former Braves are signing here and there. There's still no news on EO's 2014 contract (get on that, Braves), but Moylo signed with the Astros, so that's cool.
And Kimmie has another award under his belt...
Finally, I don't know any Braves fans who would be willing to spend over $1000 on a diamond Braves A necklace. Do you?
