Answering the Mailbag, 1.18.12

Such a slow news time - *sigh*. Every time I read the Braves Mailbag on the official site, I always answer the questions in my head before reading Bowman's (real) replies. Here's last week's mailbag...

This week more than usual, the questions are a bit over my head, talking about prospects and such. More than ever, don't take my responses too seriously... :)

With all this talk about not wanting to trade the Big Four -- Julio Teheran, Randall Delgado, Arodys Vizcaino and Mike Minor -- how does Sean Gilmartin fit the club's future plans?
-- Jonathan B., Christchurch, New Zealand

I don't know much about him. I know he's a lefty pitcher, he's pretty cute, and he's supposed to be good. Sorry. Should I know more about him?

What Major League-ready or soon-to-be-ready outfielders do the Braves have in the Minors?
-- Giles Y., Rock Hill, S.C.

Don't know! I can't even tell you who I saw playing outfield in AAA last year.

Do you think our new hitting coach can help the offense enough to be able to give the back end of the bullpen a break this year?
-- Jon W., Smyrna, Tenn.

Sure, why not. Look, to paraphrase Chipper, these guys are major leaguers. They know how to hit. In my opinion, the key is having a coach who is proactive, who will go to a headliner and say, your weight is on the wrong foot. Or you're leaning too far over the plate. Losing your balance. Whatever, the coach can't just sit back and let the players make repeated mistakes.

Who will the Braves have in their bullpen to help take some pressure off O'Flaherty, Venters and Kimbrel?
-- Michael B., Agana, Guam

Meds! Oh, of course there will be more, but I think Kris Medlen be the greatest addition to the 'pen thanks to his versatility and demeanor. Of course we'll see Vizzy back in our 'pen, as well as a few other key players from last year. Hopefully Moylo will be back in the bigs as well.
